Indiska chooses Sitoo mPOS to enable unified commerce

Indiska, one of Sweden’s oldest retail chains, has chosen Sitoo’s mobile point of sale (mPOS) and checkout system as part of its journey towards unified commerce.

Indiska was founded in 1901 and had been one of the largest and most successful retail chains in the region. However, the rise of digital and new customer shopping behaviours meant the retailer was facing a crisis in 2017 with an operating profit of minus SEK 41 million.

Enter Karin Lindahl, now owner and CEO of the chain. She was tasked with transforming the fortunes of the brand and in less than two years the company’s revenue from ecommerce has doubled. Furthermore, Indiska has reduced costs and streamlined operations. The next step in its transformation is to create a seamless customer experience in-store and online.

This is why Indiska has chosen Sitoo – the market-leading provider of a cloud-based mobile point of sale system. In October, Sitoo will be rolled out in all stores in Sweden, Norway and Finland. The next phase of the roll-out will see Sitoo integrate with Indiska’s e-commerce.

Karin Lindahl says: “Sitoo will make it much easier for us to integrate the online and offline. This means our customers will be able to order things online and pick them up in stores as well as ordering in store and have the goods delivered to their home – or any other address they want to choose. “For retailers to be successful, the ecommerce and physical stores have to work together and be fully integrated. For Indiska, it’s hugely important we focus on creating a unique mood and atmosphere in our stores as well as a wonderful experience for our customers – it should feel special for them when they enter our stores. “Sitoo’s ease-of-use will help ensure our store associates can deliver the experience we want our customers to have – they can focus on the customer rather than being stuck behind a cash register.”

Indiska are the latest in a line of traditional retailers – like Lagerhaus and Åhléns – who are embracing new technology to enhance their offering, showing tech is not just for start-ups and disruptor brands.

Jens Levin, Sitoo co-founder and CEO, adds: “We’re delighted to be working with Indiska and are looking forward to helping them meet the challenges posed by new shopping behaviours. There transformation journey is well under way and we hope Sitoo will be the catalyst to move into the next stage of it. “It’s true many start-ups and brands who want to do things differently have been quick to use solutions like ours. But we’re also seeing how important it is for established retailers to move with the times in order and have true unified commerce where they can give their customers what they want while being able to sell everywhere and fulfill anywhere.”

You can hear Karin Lindahl’s story first-hand and learn about Indiska’s journey towards a brighter future at Sitoo’s Retail Breakfast Club taking place on October, 4th.
